The World Is Counting On You     by Rich Clingman (June, 2001)

There is so much pain and suffering
I don’t even know where to start.

Too many needs, too much hurt,
It tears at this young man’s heart.

There’s the abused and the neglected,
The kids who need a home.

There’s families with boys in wheelchairs,
And girls whose hearts have been torn.

The old man dying in the hospital,
The young woman dying at home,

The children whose daddy has left them,
It all aches me clear to the bone.

So how does one fix the whole world?
How does one ease all the pain?

We reach out in love and in action,
   … One life … One touch …
Each act is part of the gain.

Maybe you’ll be a Big Brother,
Perhaps you’ll read them a book,

Visit the dying or hug a lost girl,
There are needs wherever you look.

I can’t tell you which need is important.
I can’t say what you’ll need to do.

But reach out and act, take the first step,
The world is counting on you.
